- We are pushing forward to improve our road disaster traffic control systems based on studying methods to locate and cope with potential dangerous locations,research related to forecasting natural disasters,and implementing traffic regulation amendments.

- Vast pavement performance is timely and appropriately evaluated along the
national and rural road network.
- Subsurface Cavity Survey Technology
- We are contributing to traffic safety by finding sinkholes that cause cave-in of roads.
- Tunnel Maintenance Technology
- In order to secure safety of tunnels, we are providing technology for effective maintenance, like writing inspection manuals.
- Research on Road Asset Management
- We carry out various research projects on road asset management to enable efficient road management to provide the maximum benefit for the minimum cost.
- Road Structure Maintenance Research Forum
- Private sector engineering specialists participate in this research group to improve technology related to road structure management.
- Load capacity Assessment Technique for Road bridges
- We perform surveys and research regarding methods for evaluating the maximum safe loading of bridges, in order to preserve the safety of existing bridges and enable optimal management of the vehicles that use those bridges.
- Study on Oversized/overweight vehicle operation permission
system
- A vehicle that exceeds the scale and weight restrictions is allowed to operate only if it is structurally particular or is loaded with particular freight.
- Study and Research Related to ITS and GIS
- We perform research and development activities regarding ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) and GIS (Geographic Information Systems), technologies designed to improve the efficiency of road support management businesses, enable Oversize/overweight vehicle management, and provide information to users of roads.
- Study and Research on Road Signs
- Road signs are critical facilities for guiding road traffic safely and smoothly. We perform research aimed at providing easy-to-understand road signs to meet diversified needs of road users.
- Research on Road Works
- We perform surveys and research regarding methods for shortening work periods , and decreasing the traffic jams caused by construction work in order to reduce the impact of work on traffic .
- Roadside Facilities Maintenance Technology
- We work to improve maintenance technology for roadside facilities in order to prevent injury to third parties due to breakage, and to preserve safety and the smooth flow of traffic.
2. Developing, Integrating, and Providing Systems
- "MICHI" Road Management Database System
- “MICHI”, Road Management Database System, provides very basic and essential information on the road infrastructure.
- Road Bridge Maintenance Technology
- In order to maintain bridge properly,it is necessary to systematize the maintenance method and to check and diagnose bridge conditions regularly.
- Road Bridge Monitoring System
- This system quantitatively and objectively monitors road bridge deterioration
, damage to a road bridge caused by natural disaster, and traffic conditions
relating to heavy vehicles, etc. by using sensors mounted on road bridges
to maintain road bridge safety . There are systems which use a communications
network to provide continuous monitoring of remote sites, and systems
where measurement equipment is moved around to measure sites periodically.
- Road Patrolling System
- A road patrolling system uses a portable information terminal to record data gathered while road patrolling, and a server located at an office to create patrol plan and manage the data gathered by portable terminal.
- Pavement Maintenance Management System
- This system has been developed to assist comprehensive pavement maintenance
management. Pavement surface condition data including cracking, rutting and
evenness are collected and inputted into database. Then pavement performance is
evaluated and predicted.
3. Technical Direction and Certification, and Public Relations
- Construction Technology Review and Certification
- As an examining body within the Construction Technology Examination and Certification Forum, we perform examination and certification regarding road management technology, and thus contribute to the spread of superior new technologies.
- System for Qualification Tests for Pavement Management Engineers
- In addition to performing examination and certification of pavement management engineers, we also conduct qualification exams.
- System for Asphalt Mixture Certification
- In addition to performing examination and certification of System for Asphalt Mixture Certification systems, we also conduct qualification exams.
- Evaluation and Examination of Pavement Performance
- Pavement Performance Evaluation and Examination is the system that
performance of pavement constructed by methods specified is fairly evaluated. Road
Management Technology Center is designated as the Pavement Performance
Evaluation and Examination Organization by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure
and Transport.
- Public Relations
- We perform various public relations activities, such as road disaster symposia.
